Welcome
to the
Atlanta International Museum of
Art and Design web site!
As an educational organization and a public trust, the Museum
is dedicated to celebrating society's creative achievements in art
and design; our presence on the World Wide Web is further evidence
of our continuing commitment to our mission.
It is in achieving its mission that the Museum engages a diverse
audience, engenders respect for others, and encourages lifelong
learning.
The
Atlanta International Museum of Art and Design has been officially
named an "affiliate" of the Washington-based Smithsonian Institution.
The Museum joins a prestigious national program through which it
will partner with the Smithsonian on an ongoing basis to bring unique
collections to Atlanta.
Working alongside the Smithsonian curatorial staff, the Atlanta
International Museum plans to bring collections to Atlanta primarily
from five Smithsonian museums: the Cooper-Hewitt National Design
Museum, the National Museum of African Art, the Arthur M. Sackler
Gallery of Asian Art, the National Museum of Natural History, and
the Renwick Gallery, a part of the National Museum of American Art.
The Museum opened its first exhibit as an affiliate,"Treasures from
the Smithsonian: A First Look", in October 2001.
I
encourage you to visit our galleries when you are in Atlanta. The
ability to encounter art first-hand is an experience unlike any
other. Also, please consider becoming a member
of the Museum; in so doing, you play a significant role in supporting
our educational outreach and in achieving our mission.
Sincerely,
Angelyn
